Our little girl died at 16 months old of leukemia, a long while back. We now have 10 grandkids. Eight are girls.....life, time and Faith heals wounds.

My husband is a retired City of Kent Firefighter and one of our son's best friends is a Seattle Firefighter.  Every year there is a stair climb to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. After gathering pledges, the area firefighters, in full bunker gear, (no skin showing as this is what they wear to fight fires) run up 69 flights of stairs…1400 steps… in the least amount of time. They do this while breathing from a 30 lb air pack with body temperatures reaching 140-degrees... God Bless their lives and this enormous effort.

This year while listening to the news story of the stair climb - I had a vision - a thought that I could not let go.  I stayed up all night and sketched it out so as not to lose it. Though it is simple and child like in nature, it is profound to me; A Mother that went through the very same fight for life with her child to the end so many years ago. I remember telling the intern on my last day with her. “Stop leave her alone.” Her veins had just collapsed and the intern was going to put an IV into her forehead. He left the room to get the Dr. and I had a talk with God. I thanked him for all we had been through and at that moment she drew her last breath. I kissed her and gave her emotionally from my arms to His, God's. She was free ! Her Spirit Soared!

What I painted, from my vision, is a child riding on the back of an eagle. Up into the sky among the stars. As she soars , below her on hills are other children waiting to ride on the eagle....by remission, healing or all too often by death.  As they soar the chains' of their pain falls away .

This design is entitled "To Soar is to be Free" and it is a memorial to the little one I lost to Lukemia. 85% of the proceeds from the sale of these items will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities to support families fighting lukemia.

I have gotten the approval of the Seattle Children's Hospital to use the Ronald McDonald House Charities Logo to help sell my theme on Plates, Platters, Bowls,...and I hope Mugs and Cards soon.

Help me to bring all that we can to the RMHC by buying and maybe even selling these lovingly painted items. I want to continue to honor our daughter and all those that have gone on before us to Soar before their time.
